DOWNTOWN DAYTON’S MAIN STREET, LUDLOW STREET,
OREGON HISTORICAL DISTRICT & GHOSTS, CEMETERIES AND
MURDER WALKS PLUS ONE-HOUR PROGRAMS
ON ELEVEN INTERESTING SUBJECTS

September and October, 2008 Schedule

Oregon Historic District Walks: Sept. 6, 11 a.m.; Sept. 12, 11 a.m.; Sept. 30 Dinner Walk, 4 p.m.; Oct. 11, 11 a.m.; Oct. 12 Brunch Walk 1 p.m.; Oct. 16, Dinner Walk, 4 p.m.; Oct. 17, 11 a.m.; Oct. 24, 11 a.m.  Visit new 5th Street art galleries and businesses; lunch at Oregon restaurant; walk the charming residential streets. Learn the history of the German community and the Miami & Erie Canal. View restored historic homes and businesses and visit a 1913 building being converted to condos; see sites of three silent movie theaters. Walks are about three hours including lunch and are leisurely paced.

Main Street Walks: Sept 5, 11 a.m.; Oct 10, 11 a.m.; Oct. 14, 11 a.m. See the historic building where first-self-starters were made for the 1912 Cadillac; sites of former movie palaces and department stores; buildings and facades that have been saved; visit the spectacular Kuhns Bldg.; visit a famous church and see the stained glass Urban Window; see new condos and lofts; lunch at a downtown restaurant; meet interesting people in the walk group. Walks are about three hours, including lunch and are leisurely paced utilizing park and bus benches.  

Ludlow Street Walk: Oct. 18, 11 a.m.  See the famous Terra Cotta District; sites of famous movie palaces and an infamous burlesque theater; the history and future of the Arcade; famous hotels; sties of ten mansions of well-to-do Daytonians; the second and third YMCA’s; a visit to the Dayton Int’l Peace Museum’s historic home; lunch at a downtown restaurant; meet interesting people in the walk group. Walks are about three hours, including lunch, utilizing bus and park benches and are leisurely paced.

Ghosts, Cemeteries and Murders Walks: Oct. 3, 7 p.m.; Oct. 4, 7 p.m.; Oct. 10, 7 p.m.; Oct. 11, 7 p.m.; Oct. 12, 7 p.m.; Oct. 17, 7 p.m.; Oct. 18, 7 p.m.; Oct. 24, 7 p.m.; Oct. 25, 7 p.m. Visit sites of famous ghosts at theaters and historic buildings; visit sites of the city’s first and second cemeteries; stories and sites of famous murders in the 1800’s; stop for refreshments at the end of the walk; tour guides dressed in capes and carry lanterns; a fun evening in downtown Dayton you won’t forget.

Gem City Walking Tours and Programs are researched and presented by Leon Bey, retired librarian, and Nancy Roach, retired teacher – both avid history buffs.
