I absolutely adore my hometown of Dayton, Ohio and I appreciate any and all efforts to keep the history of this magnificent city alive. If our jobs hadn't all been shipped overseas (with more being sold every day), I'd still be there. People like you can bring Dayton back from the slump it's been in for a little while. It breaks my heart to see that the politicians and powers-that-be are all trying to erase Dayton's history, citing "progress" as their goal, when it's really misguided GREED. Before I get up on the soapbox, I'll stop here, with another heartfelt THANK YOU. - C. Colbert, Colonel White c/o '89
I just had to thank you for all the work you have done and continue to do to keep Dayton’s history alive. I especially have to thank you for the books you compiled regarding the publications available at the Dayton-Montgomery County Library. As a Christmas present, my mother presented me with a gift card for Books-A-Million. After spending an hour or so in the store without really finding anything of interest, I stumbled upon several of your reference books on a table. Luckily for me, the books were on sale and I was able to purchase all of them. I was absolutely thrilled to find several family names in the books and I made myself a list of what items I wanted to look for. Unfortunately, for the last month I have been battling some health problems and I haven’t been able to visit the library. Thankfully, one of the librarians was able to locate much of the information for me and I received it yesterday. The crown jewel of this information is a large portrait and lengthy article regarding my great great grandparents, Clarinda and Henry Mathias Routsong! What a treasure this is for me and it is all because you cared enough to take the time to compile this information. I love this city and it’s heritage and I am grateful that there is someone around like you! Lori Hellmund
Great idea, Curt! I am sure I will refer many people here. Haven't fully tested the search tool, but if it means searching all the text that is available here I'm all for it! Good luck with future additions. Sue Steinke
This is a great idea, Curt. Thanks to you and your volunteers for all of your efforts! Shawn Brady

What a task you have taken on .. Accolades.
This site is very useful and helpful I wish every city in America had at least one person with such energy and devotion to tell the History of their City...Thank you for preserving the history and I hope many others may find it interesting and useful.. the early past of our great country is all but forgotten.. Schools do not teach this history anymore.. the history of our people is a precious resource of struggle and acheivment. I am studying the Henry Brown and Patterson Families from Dayton. Have found the books that were referenced in other family research files. Thank you... Richard Brown of Christiansburg Virginia
I'm an amateur genealogist in Scotland tracing a branch of my family who emigrated to Dayton in 1848. I was delighted to find information about John Allan and his son James M Allan in the Centennial Portrait. This has helped confirm some research I was working on and given me more avenues to follow. Thank you so much. I would never have been able to find out this information from such a distance without your website. Catriona Stirling, Scotland

It's great to see some old memories on-line. I grew up in north Dayton, now live near Rochester, NY, so your site brought back some real memories. Especially the book about Dayton's movie theaters. I can still see the man-on-the-street broadcasting from under the marquee on N. Main Street for WING. Ed Locker
Thank you for posting this historical information about Dayton. I'm very proud to have family roots that go back to the earliest founders of Dayton. (William Hamer and David Lowry are my ancestors of whom I'm very proud.) Many sacrifices were made by those earlier settlers who fought bravely and had a vision of leaving a great land for generations to follow. Jennifer Johnson

As a lifelong resident of Dayton, I was surprised to find an old Dayton Breweries Co. beer bottle recently. The label is N. Thomas.
