OBJECTS.
The objects to be accomplished by this organization are as follows:—
1. To preserve and strengthen those kind and fraternal feelings which bind together the soldiers, sailors and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion, and to perpetuate the memory and history of the dead.
2. To assist such former comrades in arms as need help and protection, and to extend needful aid to the widows and orphans of the fallen.
3. To maintain true allegiance to the United States of America, based upon a paramount respect for, and fidelity to, its Constitution and laws, to discountenance whatever tends to weaken loyalty, incites to insurrection, treason or rebellion, or in any manner impairs the efficiency and permanency of our free institutions; and to encourage the spread of universal liberty, equal rights and justice to all men.
ELIGIBILITY TO MEMBERSHIP.
Soldiers and Sailors of the United States Army, Navy or Marine corps, who served between April 12th, 1861, and April 9th, 1865, in the war for the suppression of the rebellion, and those having been honorably discharged therefrom after such service, and of such State regiments as were called into active service and subject to the orders of U. S. general officers, between the dates mentioned, shall be eligible to membership in the Grand Army of the republic. No person shall be eligible to membership who has at any time borne arms against the United States.

ARTICLE I.
NAME OF POST.
SECTION 1. THIS POST shall be known as Old Guard Post, No. 23, Grand Army of the Republic, Department of Ohio
ARTICLE II.
MEETINGS.
SECTION 1. Stated meetings of this Post shall be held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month—from April 1st to October 1st, at 8 o'clock P. M., and from October 1st to April 1st at 7:30 o'clock P. M.
SEC. 2. Special meetings of the Post may be called by the Post Commander, or, in case of his absence, by the Senior or Junior Vice Commander, upon the written application of five or more members.
SEC. 3. Notice of special meetings must be given either by publication, by mail or by special messenger to each member of the Post, and the object of such meeting stated in the notice.
SEC. 4. No business shall be transacted at a special meeting, except that mentioned in the call.
SEC. 5. The roll of officers shall be called at every meeting and absentees noted. The roll of the entire membership shall be called at the first meeting in each quarter.
SEC. 6. Any officer absent from four successive meetings of the Post, unless such absence be satisfactorily accounted for, thereby forfeits his office, in accordance with Chap. 2, Art. 7, Sec. 3, Rules and Regulations.
[NOTE.—By resolution of the Post, in addition to the regular meetings, an informal meeting shall be held on each occurring fifth Monday throughout the year.]
ARTICLE III.
OFFICERS.
SECTION 1. The Officers provided for in the "Rules and Regulations" shall perform the duties therein prescribed, and such other duties as may be placed upon them by order of the Commander or by vote of the Post.
SEC. 3. The Quartermaster and the Adjutant shall each receive the sum of one dollar, for each meeting of the Post—payable quarterly.
ARTICLE IV.
FEES, DUES, TRUSTEES AND COMMITTEES.
SECTION 1. The Muster-in fee shall be two dollars and fifty cents, including badge, and in all cases the money must accompany the application.
Sec. 2. Members of other Posts, in good standing, may be admitted to membership in this Post on transfer card, on paying one dollar and the regular dues from the first day of the quarter in which they are admitted.
Sec. 3. The dues of the Post shall be fifty cents a quarter, payable in advance.
Sec. 4. A Board of Trustees shall be elected at each annual election, consisting of five (5) members, who shall investigate and approve the bond of the Quartermaster, provide for its safe keeping; contract for quarters, lifting up the same &c.
Sec. 5. The Trustees of the Relief fund, consisting of three (3) members, shall be elected at each annual election, whose duties shall be to examine the applications of indigent comrades and of widows and orphans of comrades of the G. A. R. and afford necessary relief.
Sec. 6. At the 2nd regular meeting in January the Post Commander shall appoint a Committee of five (5) or more as an Entertainment Committee, whose duties shall be to provide public or Post entertainments.
Sec. 7. The Post Commander, Senior Vice-Commander, and Junior Vice-Commander, shall constitute a funeral and memorial committee.
ARTICLE V.
RELIEF FUND, BOX, BUTTONS.
SECTION 1. Ten per cent. of all dues and muster-in fees shall be placed to the credit of the Relief Fund.
Sec. 2. At each annual election and at the first meeting in each quarter, the Contribution Box shall be placed on the Altar, and the contributions therein placed in the Relief Fund.
Sec. 3. The Post Quartermaster shall furnish Lapel Buttons to members of this Post only.
AMENDMENTS.
Section 1. Notice of amendments to any of these By-laws must be offered in writing at a Regular meeting, and after being read, shall lie over two weeks before being acted upon. An affirmative vote of 'two-thirds (2/3) shall be necessary for the change, or the adoption of any amendment.
Sec. 2. Any section of these By-laws may be suspended for any stated meeting, when a motion to do so is carried by a two-thirds affirmative vote of the members present.
Sec. 3. These By-laws shall take effect and be in force from and after their adoption by the Post, and approval by the Department Commander.
